Parker Public works includes four building aspects, an office/maintenance shop/ warehouse building, Ice Slicer storage barn, magnesium chloride storage/dispensing station and a fuel storage dispensing station. The small light-duty-vehicle maintenance shop contains several bays, and an adjoining operations office area. The office area includes several offices/work areas, a break room, a large multi-purpose room for training and crew assignments, restrooms, locker rooms, parts storage/warehouse, and all associated utility rooms. The design accounted for future expansion. The facility also included an open fueling station and de-icer storage and dispensing facility. The de-icer facility shares a building with Douglas County.
Award: This facility received an award from the Colorado Chapter of the American Public Works Association for the top new structure in the medium-sized community category of the Colorado APWA’s annual awards.
Specialty Services: Parker Public Works promoted creative thinking from our plumbing engineer by learning to design around a center clerestory. The engineers had to think of creative ways to wrap all the piping around the building instead of the standard straight through piping design. The reason for the complicated design was to try to avoid interfering with the natural light provided by the Clerestory. Not only did the engineers at MEP design the pipes to wrap around the building, but they also designed the drains to be located on top of the other building and staircase down to the ground. The appearance of this beautiful building is the creation of very successful teamwork.
